Movement’s Privacy Policy

Updated May 12, 2024

Movement is a not-for-profit society registered in British Columbia. We organize for better transit in Metro Vancouver. If we are collecting your personal information, it is because you have shown an interest in helping us. We strive to be as transparent as we can, so we have written this privacy policy to explain how and why we collect, use and disclose your personal information.

We want to hear from you if you have concerns (or complaints) about your privacy. You can also ask us to stop using your personal information, correct errors, provide you with a copy of the information we have or delete your personal information. Unless there is a legal or security reason we cannot comply with your request, we will happily comply. Our Executive Director is responsible for privacy and you can reach him at hello@movementyvr.ca

Guide to the data we collect

Mailing List

Personal Information: Name, email address, city and tracking information (when you open our emails, a pixel tells us so we know when our emails are being opened and read)

Purpose: We will send you newsletters and opportunities for organizing. We also use it to track engagement to help us know what people like and do not like.

Disclosures: We do not disclose information in connection with our mailing list. We do use a service provider and they will have access to your mailing list information.

Donations

Personal Information: Name, email address, mailing address and donation amount

Purpose: Accept and process your donation (and send you a thank you note). We may have legal obligations to track and report donations.

Disclosures: We allow donors to use PayPal or Interac as a third party payment provider. That third party’s privacy policy will apply to your transaction. Small Change Fund, a charity, also raises funds to support a project to be completed in collaboration with Movement. Their privacy policy applies to any donations to them.

Petitions

Personal Information: Name, email address, mailing address and any comments you share

Purpose: Demonstrate how much support there is for the petition, understand where those supporters are, and understand why respondents support the petition. Your comments on the petition are also very persuasive messages to share in public releases.

Disclosures: We will explain on the petition who it is directed to – usually a government. All the information disclosed on the petition will be shared with that target. We may also use the comments you’ve provided in our public materials, but never with any identifying information (ie we will remove your name any and personal information) unless you give written permission.

Website

Personal Information: Our website collects standard cookies, as built into WordPress. These are the kind of cookies that help the functionality of our website. We are not tracking you on other websites or using cookies that do.

Purpose: The cookies our website gathers are tied to features (like member login) that we are currently not using.

Disclosures:  Although there are cookies, we do not use this data. If we start using this data in the future, we will update this page.
