For decades, Metro Vancouver has discussed extending the SkyTrain to UBC. The benefits are extremely well documented. The Broadway Subway to Arbutus is a good start, but it only solves half the problem and forces another transfer on commuters. We can’t wait any longer.

The demand is clear
- 150,000 daily trips start or end at UBC, 80,000 of which are on transit
- In 2023, the UBC bus exchange saw more average weekday boardings than all but two SkyTrain stations, Waterfront and Metrotown
- The top four busiest bus lines in Metro Vancouver go to UBC
The current system fails commuters
- This is a regional problem: over half of the 55,000 commuters to UBC come from outside the City of Vancouver
- Overcrowded buses regularly pass riders by, leaving commuters stranded. 500,000 people are passed up by the 99 alone every year
- Unreliable buses cost more to operate than rail. We have other campaigns to improve bus reliability, but change is frustratingly slow, and so are our commutes!
- SkyTrain would free up buses for other underserved routes. Surrey is home to the fastest growing bus routes and many of them suffer from overcrowding
We need action, not more delays
Governments keep stalling while tens of thousands suffer through slow, overcrowded commutes. UBC-X has widespread support, but we need public pressure.
The time for talk is over. Let’s build.
