The City of Surrey and TransLink are working to update Surrey’s transit network. Movement has created our own plan for what we think transit in Surrey should look like.
Buses in Surrey are slow, indirect, overcrowded, and sometimes downright unpleasant to ride. We believe Surrey transit riders deserve better, so we’re proposing 3 big ideas which could improve your ride:
1. Create new bus routes.
We are proposing new local bus routes that allow riders to travel to destinations without transferring at Surrey Central or Newton Exchange.
We are also proposing new express routes for faster trips, and new regional routes to connect Surrey with the rest of Metro Vancouver.
2. Expand bus infrastructure.
Riders deserve high quality bus infrastructure that makes connections easier. Buses need places to turn around and wait. We are proposing new and expanded bus exchanges.
Surrey also has little bus priority. This means buses get stuck in traffic, causing delay. We are proposing changing roads to prioritize buses, making them faster and more reliable.
3. Improve pedestrian infrastructure.
Every transit trip starts and ends with walking or rolling. Pedestrian infrastructure in Surrey, like sidewalks, are often unpleasant. We are proposing new and improved sidewalks.
Bus stops are also unpleasant to wait at. The City has the ability to improve them. We are proposing new shelters and improved lighting.
