Want better transit in Surrey? Let’s shape it together!

Are you a transit rider who lives in Surrey or commutes there often? If yes, here is something you need to know:

The City of Surrey is working on a new transit vision to address the rapid population growth since the last plan which was developed over 18 years ago. Surrey’s population is expected to grow to 1 million (up from around 650,000 currently) in the next 20 years. This means it is long past time to adopt a new vision for transit that can accommodate Surrey’s current and future residents

And what does this mean for existing transit riders in Surrey? It means having a connected transportation network which offers reliable, abundant and frequent service to everyone. This will help ensure that transit riders can travel stress-free and comfortably, wherever they need to go.

Currently, only 27% of Surrey’s residents have access to frequent transit, compared to 90% in Vancouver (City of Surrey, 2024). Additionally, TransLink’s 2024 Transit Service Performance Review highlights that ridership has gone up in Surrey and Langley, by 11.4% in just one year! 80% of this growth was driven by bus boardings alone. As a result, the top 3 bus routes with the highest slowdown in the region are all in Surrey

This is where you come in. We need to hear from you! As a transit rider in Surrey, what do you want to see in this new vision? Tell us about your experience, the routes or buses you use most, and what changes you’d like to see in the Surrey bus network.

We’ll be presenting a thorough report with your feedback to the City of Surrey and their consultants on July 18, 2025. The more feedback we get before then, the better!
